Daphne Elementary Students Boost Reading Skills via Reading Software

Daphne Elementary South students are improving reading skills in a no-pressure environment

With the help of Soliloquy Reading
Assistant
, Daphne Elementary School South students are actually having fun
learning to read. The Soliloquy Reading
Assistant is an interactive educational software program which assists
elementary children in increasing their reading comprehension, fluency, and
vocabulary. Under this software program,
you can expect to see big changes in a child’s reading abilities within a school
year’s time, no matter what level they start on.

The ‘test’ run of this program’s
performance was with a group of 322 students of all learning levels, including
English Language Learners (ELL) and Special Education students. Using this amazing reading software, students
are able to read ebooks with their voice recorded onto the software; when a
child hesitates or makes a mistake on a word, the program will correct it. This takes a lot of pressure off of children
that have a hard time learning to read because their reading is private and
they can play back their recording to see how they did in a set of
microphones.

Other features of the Soliloquy Reading
Assistant software allow children to hear books read to them, answer questions
about comprehension along the way, and even give them visual aids to help them
remember vocabulary words and pronunciation. A Daphne Elementary Special Education teacher, Kathy Smith, said, “One
of my students began the year reading between 27 and 32 words per minute…his
average is [now] up to 70…” Smith also
indicated that this same student showed ‘significant improvements’ in other
areas of study as well.
