Fairhope Beach open again to public

Baldwin County Health Department gives the go-ahead for swimmers of Fairhope Beach

Under the Alabama Department of Public Health’s
directive, Fairhope Beach in Baldwin County was closed until bacteria values
became safe again on Wednesday. This is
the second time they have had to issue this advisory for swimmers in a few
weeks time. The previous warning was
given during the last week of May of this year.

To determine marine water safety, the Alabama
Department of Public Health must take two tests to conclude if the water is within
the Environmental Protection Agency’s level of 104 enterococcus organisms per
every 100 milliliters of water. If these
samples indicate a higher than recommended level of organisms  then the water is deemed an increased health
risk for beach-goers; this was the case at the end of May and Wednesday of this
week, signaling an advisory to go into effect.

Nevertheless, a recent report from the Press-Register
covering the Alabama region stated that Baldwin County Health Department has
found Fairhope Public Beach safe again for swimmers. These swimming advisories have generally only
last a day or two, and therefore have not greatly inconvenienced beach-goers
this season.
