EADS Seeks $40 Billion Pentagon Contract for Mobile AL Airbus plant

Mobile AL may be the next site for a final assembly Airbus plant if EADS can gain contract this year

One of the biggest Pentagon contracts may be landed by EADS, the Airbus
parent company, with one of their operating engineering sites in Mobile
Alabama
. EADS is seeking the $40 billion
contract that will supply the United States Air Force with 179 aerial refueling
tankers—a hefty and lucrative job indeed. During the annual Paris air show, a gathering of Mobile City Council
members and the Mobile Airport Authority were in attendance to represent the
interests of Mobile Alabama. If the
contract goes to EADS, they will build a final assembly plant in Mobile and generate
approximately 1,500 jobs, as reported by the International Herald Tribune.

EADS as their work cut out for them in more ways than one as they must
convince U.S. congress that they will be in their best interests despite their
association as a French aerospace company. However, EADS must also beat out their worthy competitors Boeing, the
second largest American military supplier, already a Washington regular. The final decision on the contract will be
made later this year.
