Alabama’s Gulf Shore Beaches are Fairing Well this Season, Boasting Record High Revenues

The Baldwin Coast is booming with business from summer visitors to the beaches and other attractions of the area

Alabama’s Gulf Shores are doing well this summer and especially the Baldwin
coast. Spending by summer visitors has
hit a record high this year, even going into the hottest summer months where
revenue typically tapers off. According to
the Press-Register online, $176.7 million in taxable retail sales was brought
in this past spring by several of the beachfront towns and is a 33 percent jump
from what was accumulated at this time in 2004 before the hurricane.

The trend is obviously a good one and is in part due to the many attractions
of the area besides the beautiful beaches. The Wharf, for one, is a contributor to this economic growth, which is
planned to include more than 1,000 hotel rooms and condo units as well as 1 million
square feet of retail space. The Wharf
is also the home of a marina, Ferris wheel, movie theaters, and a huge
amphitheater that has continually sold out performances from top musicians.
