ThyssenKrupp steel plant in Mobile Alabama. The study indicated that about $22 million will go to the Mobile County
Public school in taxes when the plant is up and running. Other expected benefits to the area include
the creation of 9,000 construction jobs in the first year of building; these
jobs will be from various areas of Mobile and Baldwin County, as well as other
surrounding counties.
Dr. Semoon Chang, a professor of
economics at the University of South Alabama, conducted the study and estimated
that this plant will create more than 8,000 permanent jobs, with an annual $280
million paid in wages. The plant is
expected to be in operation by 2010.
