Another Baldwin County Waterway Considered for State Protection
Protecting the Magnolia River may mean strict regulations for developers to ensure the river is preserved for generations to come
Baldwin County Alabama has a number of waterways that are
key to the communities around them; that’s why officials and residents alike
would like to add another waterway to the list of Alabama Rivers which would
give them the state’s highest level of environmental status. The waterway in question is the Magnolia
River which has been a source of recreation and enjoyment for the surrounding communities
for generations. Concerns about the
river have more recently developed due to changes in the water level that will
eventually make it impossible for boats to pass through, and materials that
flow into the water from development sites.
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management is
currently looking into the protection of the Magnolia River which may lead to
more restrictions about how development projects in the area will be run and
how the river is to be used.
