Mobile Annexation May pull in More Revenue Than Expected for the City
With the New Revenue from the Annexation, Major Sam Jones plans on using it to improve city services as promised
Last year’s Schillinger Road Annexation to the city of Mobile
Alabama may be bringing in a larger annual revenue for the city than Mayor Sam
Jones had expected. The predicted $10
million a year may be closer to $11 million if the first month’s sales tax
collections are an indicator. Although Mayor
Jones is not adjusting the budget yet, he will be using the expected new
revenue to pay for the cost of improved city services by increasing the police
and fire forces, and offering better garbage pickup as well as road upkeep.
The Schillinger Road Annexation was the only area to vote in
favor of annexation last year out of four different areas.
