Spanish Fort…Then and Now

Did you know this history?

Spanish Fort was first a French trading post, until the Spanish built a fort there in 1780. This was after they took the area from the British during the Revolutionary War. The British attacked and destroyed the fort in 1781, but the Spanish rebuilt it in 1799. Finally, the US took Spanish Fort in 1814. During the Civil War, Spanish Fort was heavily fortified as an eastern defense to the city of Mobile. (Wikipedia)

Fast forward 190 years….In November, 2004 the Eastern Shore Centre celebrated its Grand Opening. It is located at Hwy 181 and I-10, in the area also known as Malbis. This beautiful center is a "lifestyle" center, with outdoor access between shops, music and fountains to refresh you while shopping. Currently, the sporting goods mega-store, Bass Pro is building a new facility just North of I-10. These retail outlets are sure to please the many outdoor enthusiasts and shoppers in Baldwin County! Spanish Fort has seen strong growth due to these and other related projects. Demand for homes in this area continues to be strong.
