Bus Routes to Increase in Baldwin County Alabama, Helping Residents and Summer Workforce
During the summer in Baldwin County Alabama, foreign students flood in for four months of travel and add to the workforce on the Gulf Shores. In past years the bus systems did not offer routes from where they would commonly stay at Baldwin County Beaches; however, this year, officials are looking to make some changes to improve efficiency and safety that will also benefit the local residents.
Many of the local roads are not suited for pedestrians to travel safely, and the new proposed routes that would go through Gulf Shores and Orange Beach would help the foreign students to get to work, but would also reveal how many local residents would use the system if available. Mayor G.W. “Billy” Duke presented the idea of utilizing the little-used buses and vans to go the Gulf Shores portions of the route. The city council liked the idea as long as it could be decided what the actual routes would be and that it would be available for citizens as well, not just the workforce. With ever increasing gas prices, increasing the bus routes available should continue to alleviate these costs for residents.
