New Competition for U.S. Air Force Refueling Tanker Contract

The much sought after Tanker Air Force contract won by Northrop Grumman is being reevaluated due to the results of congressional investigators after Boeing challenged the decision; the congressional investigation revealed that there were multiple mistakes made in the process of choosing which company to award the contract to. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is overseeing the new competition to make sure neither Boeing or Northrop Grumman are given partiality, only an assessment of which one will really be best for the Air Force. An analysis by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) revealed that the Air Force did not assess both refueling tanker proposals based on the same merits and showed favoritism towards Northrop.
