Learn Emergency Procedures in Baldwin County AL
Hurricanes from the Gulf of Mexico are a real part of Alabama coastal living, but Baldwin County is taking care of the need for emergency shelters. The Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency have arranged for a few shelters as a last resort in category 2 or worse storms. A few examples of such shelters includes the newly established Baldwin County Coliseum Community Shelter and Arena on Fairground Road, where officials recently gave shelter workers a tour of the buildings and available emergency facilities at the beginning of July; the Coliseum is built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane, 200 mph winds, and holds about 1,900 people.
The Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency encourage residents to find the closest available shelter to where they live and be prepared to evacuate there in cases of emergency; when coming to the shelter, a waiver of liability must be signed and a background check will be done as well.
