Spanish Fort AL Rezoning Request Vote Delayed

The Spanish Fort City Council meeting this month resulted in another delay of the vote for a rezoning request regarding the placement of a cell phone tower.  Thus, the December 1st meeting of the City Council will involve a vote on whether the request for rezoning of almost an acre of land will be devoted to the construction of a 180-foot cellular phone tower at the old gas station site on the Causeway.  This delay was explained by Mayor Joe Bonner to give the council members more time to really assess the decision and for the company that has made the request (a subsidiary of AT&T Mobility LLC)  to provide some more information.

AT&T representatives have indicated that the placement of the tower is the only available spot that would significantly improve cell phone service on the Causeway.  However, there have been concerns that this location would hinder future recreation and tourism plans for the area.
